BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — With a recent wave of cold cases turning hot, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help solve a murder that dates back to 1976.

According to PBSO Detectives, in October of 1976 the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office recovered the unidentified skeletal remains of a male subject in a western, rural region of Palm Beach County off of State Highway #827 near the Talisman Farms area.

Investigators determined the victim had been shot and killed and his identity remained unknown and part of the Nameless Unidentified Human Remains Case Files. In 2023, use of Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy identified the victim as Douglas Streeter of Bryan, Ohio.

Streeter traveled to Florida with a group of friends from Ohio in March of 1976 and was last seen in the area of the Spanish Oaks Apartments in Boca Raton, Florida. He never returned home and his whereabouts remained unknown until now. Streeter also had ties to North Adams, Michigan and was also known by the nickname of “Strut”.

Police are now seeking tips about the murder — or from anyone who knows anything about what happened the night Streeter vanished from Boca Raton. If you have information, call CrimeStoppers at 800-458-TIPS, or email Detective John Cogburn at cogburnj@pbso,org. You could receive a reward of up to $3,000.
