BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Another Boca Raton nursing home is facing a lawsuit in Palm Beach County Circuit, filed by the loved ones of a residents who allegedly received egregiously inappropriate care. The latest suit alleges that Boca Raton’s Manor Care neglected patient Jean Gerard Volcy — leaving Volcy with infections, ulcers, sepsis, and gangrene.

According to the suit, which seeks in excess of the circuit court statutory minimum of $30,000, attorneys for Volcy allege that Manor Care and its parent company Promedica failed in hiring competent workers, failed in training those workers, and failed in ensuring those workers provided the care expected. From the lawsuit:

“At all times material hereto, the staff, agents and employees of the Defendant were negligent and/or violated the provisions of Florida Statutes 400.022 by the following acts or omissions or deprivation of Statutory rights as follows: A. Failing to provide adequate and appropriate health care and protective support services for JEAN GERARD VOLCY; Failing to treat JEAN GERARD VOLCY courteously, fairly and with the fullest of dignity; Failing to keep JEAN GERARD VOLCY from physical abuse and neglect; Failing to develop and implement comprehensive care plan to prevent the development of pressure ulcers; Failing to prevent and heal the development of decubitus ulcers; Failing to document nutritional input and output; Failing to prevent and to treat multiple decubitus ulcers; Failing to prevent the development of an infection, sepsis and gangrene; Failing to timely transfer JEAN GERARD VOLCY to an acute care hospital for treatment for his wounds, sepsis and gangrene.”

The suit states that Volcy was later relocated to another facility for treatment that was not provided by Promedica and Encore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Boca Raton.
