The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office documented the traffic stop and arrest in a report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com.

“On June 15th 2023 at approximately 1856 hours, I was on routine patrol in the area of Boca Raton, FL, Palm Beach County, when the following occurred. I observed a white Volkswagen Jetta bearing FL tag (redacted by BocaNewsNow). Via records check the tag came back expired to a black and tan ford. I conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Military Trail and Palmetto Park Rd by activating my overhead lights and sirens. The vehicle slowed down to a crawl but failed to come to a complete stop for a few hundred yards, passing a turn lane to pull over. I observed the driver making movements in the vehicle as if she was attempting to conceal something. I made contact with the driver who was identified as Barbara Shortt”

“Records check via DAVID and FCIC revealed (that she was a Habitual offender). I placed Short under arrest for this offense. Search of the vehicle incident to tow there was a clear rock like substance on the driver seat. (The clear rock like substance) was field-tested this substance negative cobalt and positive marquise for fentanyl. This substance weighted 0.01 grams. I find probable cause to charge Barbara Short with driving while listed a Habitual Traffic Offender FSS 322.34(5) and Possession of Fentanyl FSS 893.136.(A). This incident was captured on Body Worn Camera.”
