BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Another Boca Raton homeowner is finding out that paying your HOA fees and dues isn’t optional in the state of Florida. If you buy a home in a community with an association, you must pay any fee or assessment that is levied. If you don’t, you may find yourself facing foreclosure or dealing with a lien on your home.

That’s what’s happening now to Mizner Pointe Homeowner Natasha Reid who the HOA says owes more than $10,000 in unpaid fees and dues. A claim of lien was just filed by the Mizner Pointe HOA in Palm Beach County Circuit Court.

According to the suit, assessments and other fees were largely not paid since December of 2021. By December of 2022, more than $4000 was unpaid. By late spring of 2023, the past-due payments approached $7000. Throw in a special assessment of $3601, subtract a partial payment of $2915, and the unpaid balance as of June 2, 2023 was $10,021.15. That’s the amount Mizner Pointe wants to lift the lien.

Palm Beach County Property Appraiser records show that Reid purchased a home in Mizner Pointe for $385,000 in November of 2021.
