BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A massive police operation to stop motorists from speeding by area schools netted hundreds of citations, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office which released information to BocaNewsNow.com just before 6 p.m. on Thursday.

According to PBSO, 533 speeding citations were issued over the five-day enforcement action that ran from August 21 through August 25th. Among the schools targeted: Olympic Heights High School, Polo Park Middle School, Hidden Oaks Elementary, and Joaquin Garcia High School.

In addition to the 533 speeding citations, 52 citations were issued for speeding in a school zone, 16 citations were issued for careless driving, and 108 citations were issued for seatbelt violations.

PBSO warned motorists in the days before the operation that deputies would be out in force, enforcing traffic laws near schools. Tickets for speeding in a school zone in Florida can run hundreds of dollars and add three or four points to your license.

“The schools lowered some of the worst for speeding and congestion,” said a PBSO spokesperson.
