DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A band of thugs preying on postal workers was nabbed by cops in Delray Beach, according to information obtained by BocaNewsNow.com. Five people are now in custody. The Delray Beach Police Department issued this advisory to BocaNewsNow.com:
Delray Beach police executed a series of search warrants on Monday, September 11, resulting in the apprehension of five men allegedly involved in a highly organized mail fraud scheme. The arrested individuals have been identified as Robbie Cadet, Dario Cadet, Billy Cadet, Schan Padovany, and Jordan St. Val. The men face charges of organized scheme to defraud, criminal use of personal identification information, and grand theft. Delray Beach police, in collaboration with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, have been pursuing this case, leading to a successful operation on Monday.
The investigation was initiated when the U.S. Postal Inspection Service alerted local law enforcement to a group of individuals in Delray Beach suspected of being responsible for mail thefts in Palm Beach County. The primary focus of the criminals was to rob mail carriers of their postal arrow keys, granting them access to mailboxes in the region. Once in possession of the keys, the perpetrators used them to unlawfully access mailboxes and remove checks from the stolen mail. These checks were then either altered or used as templates to print counterfeit checks to deposit them into various bank accounts for a profit. During the search warrant, police recovered more than 2000 checks, over 200 bank cards, a stolen postal arrow key, and five stolen firearms.
The Delray Beach Police Department wishes to inform the public that the investigation into this mail fraud is ongoing, and additional arrests are anticipated soon.
To safeguard against falling victim to similar scams, we urge the community to take the following precautions:
- When mailing checks or financial documents, consider bringing them inside the post office rather than depositing them in bulk collection boxes overnight or over the weekend.
- Monitor your bank accounts and credit reports regularly for any suspicious or unauthorized activity.
- If you suspect your mail has been tampered with or if you have fallen victim to mail fraud, please report it to your local police or the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
