BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A new system is forming in the Atlantic and it is expected to reach tropical cyclone strength within days. It’s still too early to know whether it will be a factor for Florida — early modeling is iffy at best and suggests a turn before approaching the U.S. mainland.

For the North Atlantic… Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Active Systems: The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Philippe, located over the central tropical Atlantic.

  1. Central Tropical Atlantic (AL91): Showers and thunderstorms continue to show signs of organization in association with a broad area of low pressure located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development, and a tropical depression is expected to form in the next day or two while the system moves west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. * Formation chance through 48 hours…high…80 percent.
  • Formation chance through 7 days…high…90 percent.
