BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A child nearly drowned in the swimming pool at the Lotus clubhouse Tuesday afternoon. Lotus is a new-ish G.L. Homes community on Lyons Road, on the east side of Lyons across from Boca Bridges.
Sources familiar with the rescue operation say that the child — believed to be eight years old — ended up in the pool and may have been briefly unresponsive. It was unclear if the child was pushed, running on the deck, or otherwise didn’t expect to end up in the water. He was pulled from the pool and apparently had trouble breathing. Blood was seen coming from his mouth.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene and immediately began resuscitation efforts to alleviate the child’s breathing issues. He was then taken by ambulance to West Boca Medical Center which is a good sign — West Boca is not a trauma center which suggests the child’s injuries were ultimately not considered to be life-threatening.
There are no lifeguards at the Lotus swimming pool. It was not immediately clear if the child was supervised or what led to the incident. It was also unclear early Tuesday if Florida’s Department of Children and Families is investigating.
