BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Despite anti-LGBTQ+ initiatives and positions pushed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the Palm Beach County School Board is set to celebrate October as LGBTQ+ month. BocaNewsNow.com obtained an early version of the proclamation set to be approved by the school board during a meeting on October 18th. The following is the official language set to be used. We ask for your opinion at the end of this report:
WHEREAS, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ+) Americans have made, and continue to make, great and lasting contributions that continue to strengthen the fabric of American society, and;
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ History Month reminds both the LGBTQ+ and wider communities of the important roles LGBTQ+ people have taken in creating the social, legal, and political worlds we live in today, and;
WHEREAS, this month, as we recognize the immeasurable contributions of LGBTQ+ Americans, we renew our commitment to the struggle for equity and equal rights for LGBTQ+ students and staff, and;
WHEREAS, the School District of Palm Beach County is committed to the academic success of all youth, and to removing barriers to that end, and we believe that LGBTQ+ youth should feel safe to learn without the fear of harassment or discrimination, and;
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ educators, students, and families should be supported to live an affirmative life with dignity and respect. The LGBTQ+ community cuts across every demographic of race, gender, economic status, ethnicity, religion, and region, and;
WHEREAS, the School District of Palm Beach County has taken appropriate measures to address LGBTQ+ bullying, harassment, and educational equity in general, through policies, such as: Non-Discrimination Policy 5.001, Anti-Bullying Policy 5.002, and Policy 5.81 Protecting Students from Sexual Harassment and Gender-Based Discrimination, and;
WHEREAS, community-based organizations and community leaders have partnered with the School District of Palm Beach County to inform, support, and provide resources to promote safe learning environments for all students and families, and;
WHEREAS, the School District of Palm Beach County appreciates and recognizes the importance of LGBTQ+ History Month as an effective means of informing and calling to action the citizens of Palm Beach County to work together to promote equal protection of all Palm Beach County students and staff, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Superintendent and School Board of Palm Beach County do hereby proclaim October 2023 as LGBTQ+ History Month.
Done this eighteenth day of October, two thousand twenty-three, in West Palm Beach, Florida.

I think this I a wonderful idea!! LGBTQ community has made many contributions to our society!! And is approximately 1/3rd of the population and should be recognized and not discriminated against! Gov DeSantis has done Floridians a huge injustice, by disparaging the LGBTQ community and drag queens as sexual predators and groomers…all the while..we see religious leaders, youth counselors, youth sports coaches being the true real groomers in our society!!
I am glad to see Palm Beach County doing this..despite the governor we have..he too shall pass..and the LGBTQ community has been here since the beginning of time..and is about a 3rd of the population! About time this is recognized!-

If teaching children under 15 years of age that it is ok to change from being a girl to a boy, or visa versa, than I guess those who think that the LGTQB OR WHATEVER you want to call them, has done much good in our society, then I was raised wrong. Surely this is a joke. We talk about these issues to children for a month. They don’t give the agenda in the schools during this month. School is for learning not to be exposed to an alternative life style.

I believe Diane covered it all perfectly I learned a couple of things. Hopefully more people will stop and really think it’s so simple to me, just as simple as it gets. I don’t know exactly where or from whom the notion that being gay ect, was a disease, it could be cured. Or, and this one is my favorite, it can be unlearned and learned like tap dancing, I try my best to understand how educated people sincerely believe such ignorant garbage. 53 yrs ago I was 7 and even I understood love, and that pretty much is what everyone one wants. That is how my father explained to me how people love who they love theres nothing wrong with that. He also said not all of your aunts and uncles like it. Sadly in 92-93 a relative my age 30 something committed suicide partly due to family members pressure and total unacceptance from a young age.

Most of what we see of them is abhorrible. Disturbing traffic, silly public demonstrations, running nude on our streets, participating in woman’s sports and generally being disruptive.

October has been Breast Cancer Awareness Month, now you all are trying to push more LGBTQ month. Sad to see this happening. Glad I grew up in a time of being a kid and loving my school and learning to be able to read and write and play on the playground. Its a proclamation. A formality. Will the children even see or hear it? All it states is that all students shall be respected and treated equally and not be bullied. In short: Free to Be, You and Me.
All the books that might be suggested reading, or discussed this month, have been removed from the schools.
My guess is teachers will spend a few minutes saying we are all different
and special and isnt that great.
Kids learn more about diversity watching tv. -

If they want to worry about being inclusive and not offending anyone then remember not everyone agrees with this type of lifestyle. As a Born Again Christian, I do not. However, I accept all people as Jesus did but our beliefs should not be taken for granted. If everyone is really meant to be accepted then include everyone. As a matter of fact, October is Italian American Heritage month so you may include that honor as well.
