BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Police departments and agencies in Palm Beach County are notably quiet about their plans and reactions to the unprovoked attack by Hamas on Israel that’s left hundreds dead and thousands injured, but police agencies in other parts of South Florida have announced increased presence of law enforcement personnel at Jewish institutions.
On Miami Beach, the Miami Beach Police Department issued this statement: “The safety and well-being of our community is our top priority, especially during difficult times. In light of recent events in Israel, the Miami Beach Police Department has augmented police visibility near all synagogues and other strategic locations in our city. This is a proactive measure to ensure the safety and security of everyone. We will continue to keep the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers.”
In Miami-Dade County, the police department issued this statement: “The safety of our community will always be our top priority. We are not aware of any current threats in communities within #OurCounty; however, we will have an increased police presence in areas of religious significance, including mosques and synagogues, as a result of the recent attacks in Israel to ensure the safety of our residents. We are also reaching out to community partners to ensure they know we are here to support them. As always, we remind our residents to remain vigilant. If you see something, say something. For emergencies dial 9-1-1 immediately.”
Should the Boca Raton Police Department, the Delray Beach Police Department, the Boynton Beach Police Department, or the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office issue statements, we will amend this report. There are approximately 170,000 citizens who identify as Jewish in the greater Palm Beach County area.
