PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — You could have a new pet — fee-free — by Halloween if you act quickly. Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is offering fee-free adoptions to ease the crisis-level animal housing situation the division is facing. PBCAC issued this statement to BocaNewsNow.com:

The Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety Division of Animal Care and Control (PBCACC) shelter is in a crisis and is critically overcrowded. With the shelter having over 200 dogs, the shelter has exceeded its capacity for humane care. Help is desperately needed now to reduce the severe overcrowding in the shelter. To address the overcrowding, the shelter is offering waived adoption fees. For those who can’t adopt, PBCACC offers several foster program options (Foster2Rescue, Foster2Adopt, Foster2Family and Foster2Petpals).

The PBCACC shelter has been overcapacity since April 2022, and when it exceeds 200 dogs, it becomes critical to find homes for these wonderful pets before it’s too late. Now’s the time. For those who are interested, don’t wait, browse the online gallery of pets available for adoption or fostering right here, or visit the PBCACC in person today. No appointment needed. Adoption Center hours are Monday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Adoption fees are waived for all adoptable pets.

Anyone planning on joining PBCACC for the spooktacular “Adopt Your Boo” Adoption Event this Saturday, Oct. 28, from noon to 4 p.m., is encouraged to pre-adopt or foster an animal today, to make sure to find a wonderful animal. The event on Saturday promises a day of family fun, adorable furry friends, and unforgettable moments. There will be a wide range of activities and incentives, such as free ice cream from noon to 1 p.m., vendors, face painting and a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue truck appearance.

Gifts, dogs in costumes and a raffle indicate how the community has come together to address the overcrowding issue. PBC Animal Care & Control is located at 7100 Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach, just west of the Florida Turnpike. For more information, please call (561) 233-1200 or visit this website.
