Is That A Pitbull In A Delray Beach Deli? It’s Our Boca Rudeton Winner Of The Day

Why is this dog in the “Baels With” deli in Delray Beach?

BY: STAFF REPORT | BocaNewsNow.com

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s finally safe to go back into a Publix now that BocaNewsNow.com instigated a company-wide ban on pets in the supermarket, but that’s not apparently the case at the “Bagels With” Deli at 8854 West Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. A BocaNewsNow.com reader nominated the man you see above for a Boca Rudeton award after he brought what appears to be a pitbull into the store.

Dogs are not permitted in restaurants or supermarkets unless they are trained service animals that have a verified service function. An emotional support animal is not a service dog. So that raises the question: why is this guy bringing his dog into a deli which features exposed food and a restaurant full of people who weren’t asked in advance how they feel about an animal sharing their breakfast. It also raises the question: does Bagles With not appreciate that allowing the dog inside may violate federal and state laws that prohibit this?

Man with dog that our tipster believes is a pitbull: you are our Boca Rudeton winner of the day! Congrats. If we gave prizes — which we don’t — we’d share with you a book of manners and common sense, along with a bagel.

We remind our readers that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place. Don’t want to be seen here? Don’t be rude here! Boca Rudeton™ is a trademark of MetroDesk Media, LLC. I go to that Deli a few times each week and it is a small place which is often very crowded, with lots of vulnerable seniors.
The food and staff are excellent. I am surprised and disappointed staff did not intervene.
    I will rethink my patronage

What part of no dogs allowed in places like this don’t you get hon? No dogs means…no dogs, it’s that simple. So have no clue about your ridiculous response here Shelli? Seriously, what part of the no dogs allowed, except real service dogs, part of the law don’t you understand??? Last I looked, no still means no. No one is above the law as we are finally finding out. Not even this selfish couple!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE ALL ANIMALS, but NOT in restaurants or supermarkets that serve the public. Take them to the many dog parks established just for your pet. Bagels With, is a very small, crowded space, with barely enough room for diners, and take outs. No place for a pet. Rethink pet owners. Do you really think your pet WANTS to be there?

I went to Racks Farmhouse for dinner. We sat outside and had two different people around us with their dog at dinner and several time we had the dogs try to come to us for food. 🙃🙃

First off, I love dogs. However they don’t belong inside a a store that sells food. It’s not people being mean. It is the simple truth. The management team should have done it. Some dogs have fleas, diseases, ticks, and alot more. A pitbull especially doesn’t belong in an eating environment. There are people who are allergic to then, plus they are scared of them. There have been alot of dogs who have attacked people. I wouldn’t ever go there again, if the management is not enforcing the rules.

How do you know it wasn’t a service dog? It looks very calm and gentle. I understand dogs aren’t supposed to be in a place selling food, but pointing out that it “looks like a pitbull” only escalates breed discrimination. That dog does not look remotely aggressive.

It’s clearly a pitbull. This distinction is important not to discriminate against the breed, but to point out pitbulls are not a breed that is EVER trained as a service dog. Also, service dogs are outfitted with officially designed garments with clear and legible writing that informs the public what they are. This dog has none

This is false. Pit bulls can indeed be trained as service dogs. Do some research before making comments about something you know nothing about. They help with PTSD, medical alets like seizures, blood sugar, etc. everyone is quick to pass judgement on things they’re not educated on.

It sure is a handsome pup. Doesn’t belong in a restaurant if it isn’t trained and wearing it’s service dog harness and badges.
Pit Bull is not an official breed. It is a term used by the uneducated for any muscular looking mixed breed canine. That handsome dog looks like an American Staffordshire Terrier. As far as “pitbulls” not being trained service dogs, you are so wrong on that. Tell that to my daughter who has a terrier mix “pitbull” service animal.

      3. Jen Avatar

The ADA does not require a service animal to wear a vest. It’s not the vest that makes the dog a service animal. It’s their training. Actually – anyone can buy a vest offline that says they are a service animal and slap that on, but it does not make the animal one.

I agree with you. The counter is very high. The dog is down low and back. People can’t see over and down to the floor and see that there’s a dog there. You can’t blame the establishment

Service dogs are required to wear a ‘jacket’ that expressly identifies that the dog is in fact a service dog….you are correct that the dog may be a service dog, but absent the jacket, the dog is not to enter the premises. Hope this clarification helps.

      1. Jayne Avatar
        Jayne

This is also FALSE. SERVICE DOGS DO NOT. I REPEAT DO NOT NEED TO WEAR VESTS OR JACKETS. Do some research about service dogs and what they can do before passing judgement. A service dog is considered MEDICAL EQUIPMENT. Everyone is so uptight. I’m not saying this particular dog is one but stop the judgement.

Well said. Too many countries (UK, South Africa) have banned Pit Bulls due to numerous killings of children and adults by pit bulls. For those of us who have lost their family members due to pit bull attacks the mentality that a mean chihuahua biting is hardly an appropriate comparison.

    2. I am not convinced this is a pitbull, so it could well be a Labrador service dog (in training)

If the owner of the Deli is ok with I don’t see a problem. The owner might prefer a well mannered dog over some of the idiots running around Delray. There is a $500,. fine for leaving a dog in a car, I believe it is an animal cruelty statute while there is no such law for dogs in grocery stores. Dog’s are part of the family so lighten up people. That dog looked well behaved and cared for. Stop being up tight people.

You don’t know the reason he brought the dog in with him. Maybe he took a walk with his dog to get food. Maybe he drove. He probably went in to order his quick bagel to go sit out side in the fresh air to have a bagel. Big deal. It wouldn’t have been in there longer than 5 minutes. Does this really affect you? You should be more worried about what’s hiding behind the counter in restaurants ( read the weekly health dept reports it’s much worse than a dog in the lobby) Bugs, flys, roaches, rodents, etc. the dog is just on the floor of the lobby with his owner. Dogs need to get out too once in a while. I work in a medical office and would bring my small dog to work to sit where I work and not near patients. People love the dog. I find it hilarious when they complain he’s “unsanitary”. A good amount of patients (the ones that complain of course) you can smell when they walk in the office like they haven’t showered in days, teeth that haven’t been taken care of with breath you can smell 2 rooms away. Some of them in the waiting room actually have urinated and deficated in their pants ( (on fabric chairs) then proceeded to go to the office chair and sit while reeking of bodily fluid. Yet have the nerve to complain about a dog that’s behind a desk that goes to the bathroom in the correct place

First off because it’s a pitbull it’s news worthy and everyone thinks they are some killer dog, which they are not if trained correctly. I should know I have two and my American pitbull has been with me 11yrs and grew up with babies and she would never take her eyes off them. My other is 3yrs old and was a rescue at 2 weeks old and has never hurt a fly and to the contrary he’s scared of his own shadow. I’m more scared of these small ankle bitters which do attack and have attacked my 11yrs pit and she didn’t even retaliate which should have. On a side note I never bring my dogs to places where there is food or a ton of people since it can be overwhelming for them. Again, I do agree on no animals allowed in stores, restaurants, and or places where a lot of people are then again I’m a responsible owner of this breed and know my dogs triggers. They are service dogs and can technically go places I just choose not to do it. In the end they are animals and like people have triggers. I just think this got a news story because of the dog being a pitbull and for sure it’s discrimination against the breed and people should do some reading about the breed since they are very well tempered and very loyal to there family. Rant over!
