BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton woman was arrested for DUI after she was found sleeping behind the wheel of her BMW on Jog Road near Clint Moore early Wednesday morning. When awoken by a Boca Raton Police officer — who asked her where she was going — she allegedly responded that she was going nowhere and coming from nowhere.
But while the woman, Liana Zuniga, refused to provide a breath sample for a DUI check — which automatically leads to a license suspension — there are questions as to whether she was truly inebriated or, in fact, suffering a diabetic incident. The following is part of the police report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com.
“On 11/1/23, at approximately 0206 hours, I was dispatched to the area of 6699 Jog Rd. after and unknown caller stated that a female was passed out behind the wheel of a blue BMW bearing FL tag LMN3Y. Upon arrival, I observed the vehicle in question in the middle thru lane facing w/b on the east side of the intersection. It should be noted that Boca Raton Fire Rescue was on scene prior to my arrival.
Boca Raton Fire Rescue 7 secured the vehicle. I walked up to the driver’s side and observed a white female, later identified as Liana Zuniga, sleeping behind the wheel of the vehicle. After banging on the door and roof, Zuniga woke up, and she lowered the window I was able to open the door. As the door opened, i observed that Zuniga had bloodshot (and) watery eyes and smelled a strong smell of what I know through my training and experience of alcohol.

I asked Zuniga where she was coming from, in which she stated that she wasn’t going anywhere and wasn’t coming from anywhere. Boca Raton Fire Rescue ME 7 checked Zuniga blood sugar level and advised that her levels were slightly high. Zuniga stated that she suffers from type one diabetes. Based upon the combination of Pre and post-stop clues I requested Zuniga to participate in Field Sobriety Exercises (ESEs) to which she complied.”
Zuniga, according to the report, had issues completing several of the field sobriety tests. Whether diabetes-related, or alcohol-related, was unclear. She was arrested and charged with DUI.
Liana was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail around 5:30 on Wednesday morning. She was released on her own recognizance just after 10 a.m. A court date is pending.
