DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man was crushed by an overturned crane Thursday morning in East Delray Beach. His condition was unclear as of noon on Thursday.
According to sources familiar with the rescue operation, first responders were called to the scene of the overturned crane just before 9 a.m. in the 1000 block of Lewis Cove Road in Delray Beach. Rescuers found a man — presumably the crane operator or construction personnel — trapped under the crane. The man, who witnesses say was in his 40s, was barely breathing.
Rescuers staged what’s known as a “technical rescue” which is a specially of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. The extracted the man from under the crane and rushed him to Delray Medical Center. BocaNewsNow.com has learned that he was in critical condition — suffering from multiple broken and potentially crushed bones, and breathing issues.
Delray Medical Center is a level one trauma center. The Linton Road Bridge was ordered to remain closed by rescue officials where they moved apparatus into — and out of — the area.
