New Policy To Be Approved. Focuses On Parents Who Believe They’re Smarter Than Teachers. But Even Residents Without Kids Can Object.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — In a state where the Governor has largely declared that parents know more than teachers — even parents who are completely uneducated — the Palm Beach County School District is preparing to adopt a new policy on how parents can object to materials being used in school. In fact, any Palm Beach County resident — whether they have a child in school or not — may object to materials being used in a public school classroom.
Over the past several months, Palm Beach County has endured residents objecting to the Bible, to books that teach about reproduction, books that teach about lots of things, and books that don’t align your choice of crazy conservative or loony liberal views.
The policy — which you can read in its entirety, below — includes the following language: “Any resident of Palm Beach County, or emancipated student or parent of a child attending public school in Palm Beach County may file an objection with a school or the Board Clerk concerning the use of or content in specific instructional materials, library media center materials, classroom libraries, and supplemental classroom materials, including, reading lists, and instructional materials that have not gone through the Board’s adoption process where Objections are filed more than 30 Days after adoption.”
Also from the policy: “Objections filed by a parent or emancipated student shall be heard in the school in which that student is registered. If the parent has children at different schools in Palm Beach County, then the objection must specify which school(s) the objection pertains to and it will be heard in that/those school(s). If the objecting party is not the parent of a child in the School District, the objection will be assigned to the appropriate school within the boundary corresponding to the residence of the objecting party for review if the material is located at that school or to the school in close proximity where the material is located.”

Palm Beach County used to have a reputation for integrity – with this decision, it’s gone.
News to me. Boca Raton-area schools are not representative of the s***thole state the school district has been in for as long as I, an area native and alumni of such, have been alive. It’s not wonder American Heritage, The Kings Academy, et cetera private schools, as wells as charter schools beyond those sketchy ones operating out of former big box retailers, have become more desirable for both parents and teachers. Remember, it’s not the teachers making the rules, it’s pseudo-career politicians on the the school board with an agenda (case in point, the mission statement debacle a year or so ago).
It’s truly heartbreaking what is happening with public education in this state, when ignorant parents (or anyone, really) can usurp the roles of knowledgeable professionals who have devoted their lives to education. The demonization of experts by know nothings will be the downfall of this country.
Then why has Florida gone from near-rock bottom to the top of the ranks in surveys? Alas, to be fair maybe because public education nationally has dropped rock bottom since 2020, when “experts” said Zoom learning is just as effective as in-school learning yet go up in arms over home schooling?
