Broward Sheriff’s Office provided this statement to BocaNewsNow.com Tuesday afternoon — the first time official information was released. We note the official release states Pompano Beach, but BocaNewsNow.com believes the actual crash location was in Coconut Creek, just south of Palmetto Park Road.
“Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left a man dead in Pompano Beach.
Shortly after 7:50 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 23, BSO traffic homicide detectives responded to the 600 block of North Powerline Road in Pompano Beach after receiving a report of a crash involving two vehicles.
The preliminary investigation revealed Gustavo Rojas Ruiz was driving a 1998 Chevrolet S10 traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Powerline Road when the vehicle collided head-on with the female driver of a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported the driver of the Jetta to a local hospital with serious injuries. Paramedics pronounced Rojas Ruiz deceased on scene. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.”
