So you have to wonder if G.L. Homes, which just got slapped by the Palm Beach County Commission, ran the name of its new community at Lyons and Glades Road by a focus group. It spotlights the Achilles Heel of South Florida Real Estate, something that G.L. has seemingly taken to a new level. The idea of a “zero lot line.”
For those reading this outside of South Florida, perhaps in a large home with a large yard on Long Island, and thinking like so many of your former neighbors that you want to follow them to a GL community in Palm Beach County, here’s the deal: you’ll likely get a nice house. But when you step outside, you can stretch your arm and pretty much hit your neighbor’s nearly identical nice house. That’s zero lot line. There’s very little space between your million-dollar home and your neighbor’s million-dollar home.
Which is why it is so amazing that G.L. just went all-in with the concept and named its new community: LOTUS EDGE. We are not kidding. Promoting the fact that your home will be right up to the EDGE of your neighbor’s home, G.L. took the name of one of its existing communities and added the word “edge” to the title.

Notably, the working name for Lotus, on Lyons Road north of Clint Moore, was once “Bridges South.” But the company realized that perhaps a community name abbreviated to B.S. might not be ideal. We’ll see how Lotus Edge does with a name that draws attention to the fact that you really can love thy neighbor without walking much further than your front door.
I wonder if they’re recycling the same ugly shoebox McModern designs from Lotus Palm.
