BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Power outages continue across South Florida, following strong wind and heavy rain over the weekend in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties.
As of mid-afternoon Sunday, FPL reports 932 customers remain without power in Palm Beach County, 1,185 customers are without power in Broward County, and 1,339 customers are without power in Miami-Dade. Statewide, 6,692 customers are without power Sunday afternoon.
While no official estimate of rainfall or wind speed has been released by the National Weather Service, forecasters predicted tropical-force winds over the weekend. Wind gusts were expected to hit 40 miles per hour. A tropical storm is considered a system with winds greater than 39 miles per hour.
Downed power lines were reported across South Palm Beach County on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responding to multiple calls for service regarding downed lines. Several crashes were also reported as rain pummeled the region.
