Monday may be a holiday for many, but detours and closures will cause problems for motorists in Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, and across Palm Beach County.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The weekly traffic report from the Florida Department of Transportation shows a challenging week ahead for pretty much anyone hoping to get from one place to another on roads in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and throughout Palm Beach County. We present the official list:

  1. I-95 from south of Glades Road to south of Linton Boulevard and SR 808/Glades Road from NW 22nd Way to West University Drive in the Cities of Boca Raton and Delray Beach (95 Express Phase 3B-2)

Description: 95 Express Lanes Phase 3B-2 will extend the existing Express Lanes north from just south of Glades Road to just south of Linton Boulevard in Palm Beach County. One lane will be added, and the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane will be converted to create two Express Lanes in each direction. The number of General Use lanes will remain the same. Access to the Express Lanes will be provided via two designated ingress and egress locations—between Glades Road and Congress Avenue. The scope of work includes reconfiguration of the SR 808/Glades Road Interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). Additional project improvements include overhead sign structure installation, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Express Lane markers, new signalization, lighting, signing and pavement markings, and ramp signalization at five interchanges from Glades Road to Linton Boulevard. Shoulder-mounted sound barrier walls will be constructed along I-95 northbound between Clint Moore Road and Linton Boulevard, ground-mounted sound walls will be installed on the south side of Yamato Road east of I-95 adjacent to the University Heights Community and along I-95 northbound south of Linton Boulevard adjacent to the Tierra Verde Community. The Clint Moore Road Bridge over I-95 will be fully reconstructed and the Glades Road bridge over the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) railroad tracks and Military Trail and the I-95 bridge over the C-15 Canal (between Peninsula Drive and Linton Boulevard) will be widened. Cost/Completion: $148 million. Completion is expected in early 2024.

I-95 Traffic Impact:

  • I-95 may have up to four lanes closed in each direction nightly, 9 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday. The first lane will close at 9 p.m., the second lane will close at 9:30 p.m., and the third and fourth lane will close at 11 p.m.
  1. Belvedere Road Improvements at the I-95 Northbound On/Off-Ramp Connection

Description:Project improvements consist of adding a second right-turn lane on the SR 9/I-95 northbound exit ramp to eastbound Belvedere Road, widening, milling, resurfacing and adding a paved shoulder to the existing SR 9/I-95 northbound exit ramp to Belvedere Road, installing new mast arms assemblies and pedestrian countdown signals, implementing a Wrong Way Driving Countermeasure System, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) upgrades, new sidewalk construction on the south side of Belvedere Road from the exit ramp to eastern project limits, new signalization, lighting, curbs, gutter and drainage improvements, new fencing and sod installation. Traffic Impact:

  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from Belvedere Road may have one inside lane closed daily, 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and nightly, 9:30 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Belvedere Road at I-95 may have one outside lane closed in each direction, daily 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and nightly, 9:30 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday.
  1. I-95 Southbound Off-Ramp to Belvedere Road

Description: This 0.5-mile project in West Palm Beach began on September 18, 2023. Improvements include widening SR 9/I-95 southbound to lengthen the off-ramp deceleration lane, installing speed feedback signs to provide drivers’ traveling speed compared to the posted speed limit, providing a High Friction Surface Treatments on the SR 9/I-95 southbound off-ramp, implementing a Wrong-Way Driving detection system, replacing impacted sign structures and upgrading pavement markings and signage.

I-95 Traffic Impact:

  • I-95 southbound from south of SR 704/Okeechobee Boulevard to the I-95 southbound exit ramp to Belvedere Road, may have three outside lanes closed nightly, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday.

Ramp Impact:

  • The I-95 southbound exit ramp to Belvedere Road will be closed overnight as needed, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16 through Thursday, Jan. 18. Motorists will be detoured to Belvedere Road via westbound SR 80/Southern Boulevard and northbound Australian Avenue.

Belvedere Road Impact:

  • Belvedere Road will have one lane closed in each direction as needed, daily, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and nightly, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday.
  1. I-95 from south of 10th Avenue North to north of SR 882/Forest Hill Boulevard Safety Improvements Project

Description: This 2.75-mile project located in West Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach began on August 10, 2022. Improvements include milling and resurfacing segments of I-95 in both directions, installing new signage, including an overhead Dynamic Message Sign on I-95 northbound just south of 10th Avenue North, upgrading existing lighting with LED luminaires and installing a new Road Weather Information System (RWIS).   1. SR 9/I-95 at SR 786/PGA Boulevard Southbound Entrance Ramps Project

Description: This 0.65-mile project in Palm Beach Gardens began on November 9, 2022. Improvements consist of reconfiguring the I-95 southbound entrance ramps at PGA Boulevard. The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from westbound PGA Boulevard to southbound I-95 will be converted from a merge lane to an additional, free-flowing lane. The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from eastbound PGA Boulevard to southbound I-95 will be reconfigured to become a merge lane.   1. SR 9/I-95 Northbound Off-Ramp at SR 706/Indiantown Road Improvements Project

Description: This 1.446-mile project in Jupiter began October 30, 2023. Improvements consist of milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, re-aligning the SR 9/I-95 northbound to SR 706/Indiantown Road eastbound off-ramp to a new signalized intersection, lengthening the eastbound SR 706/Indiantown Road left turn lane to northbound SR 9/I-95, widening eastbound SR 706/Indiantown Road to provide an additional through lane and a buffered bike lane in various locations from the Florida Turnpike entrance to Central Boulevard, widening westbound SR 706/Indiantown Road to provide an additional through lane and a bike lane from 67th Road North to SR 9/I-95, widening the Indiantown RoadBridge over the C-18 canal in both directions to provide an additional through lane, upgrading Wrong-Way Driving Countermeasures on the SR 9/I-95 northbound and southbound exit ramps, upgrading Digital Message Sign (DMS) structures on westbound SR 706/Indiantown Road between Island Way and 67th Road N, widening the I-95 northbound and southbound on-ramp acceleration lane, installing sidewalk along eastbound SR 706/Indiantown Road from the Florida Turnpike entrance to Island Way, upgrading curb ramps to meet Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards, installing patterned pavement crosswalks at Central Boulevard, upgrading drainage, signage, lighting, signalization and pavement markings and upgrading Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) throughout the project corridor.   1. Dynamic Envelope Marking Rail Safety Project

Description: Construction on this railroad marking project will take place at SW Tommy Clements Street, SW Silver Fox Lane, and SW Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Indiantown, Innovation Drive in Jupiter, Aviation Road in West Palm Beach, Larrimore Road in Pahokee, Gator Boulevard/Airport Road, NW 12th Street/Osceola Street, W Canal Street, NW Avenue D, SW Avenue E/Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard W in Belle Glade, NW 1st Avenue in South Bay, and Miami Canal Road in Lake Harbor began on August 28, 2023.   1. Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) Project

Description: This 6-mile project from the Broward/Palm Beach County Line to SR 794/Yamato Road and SR 794/Yamato Road from SR 5/US 1 to SR 9/I-95 in the city of Boca Raton began on July 31, 2023. Work includes installing a new fiber optic network, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices, including Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) devices at eight (8) intersections on US 1 from Royal Palm Way to Spanish River Boulevard, upgrading the signal detection system, and upgrading the Advance Traffic Management System (ATMS) for compatibility with the Traffic Management Center (TMC).   1. SR 800/Spanish River Boulevard Over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) Scour Countermeasures Project

Description: This 0.092-mile project on SR 800/Spanish River Boulevard over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) in the City of Boca Raton began January 9, 2024. Work includes Installing Articulated Concrete Block (ACB) at the riverbed to protect the bridge foundations from erosion on the eastbound and westbound SR 800/Spanish River Boulevard bridges.

Cost/Completion: $2.1 million. Completion is expected in Fall 2024.

Traffic Impacts: The frontage road may have intermittent lane closures, daily as needed, 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, for survey activities. Flaggers will be on site to assist motorists.

Marine Impacts: No impacts anticipated.

CENTRAL PALM BEACH COUNTY PROJECTS
(Boynton Beach, Lake Worth Beach, Royal Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach)

  1. SR 802/Lake Worth Road Improvements Project

Description: This 1.90-mile project from Raulerson Drive to Palm Beach State College Entrance/Douglas Drive in the city of Lake Worth Beach began on Monday, November 14, 2022.  Work includes constructing a new exclusive right turn lane from eastbound Lake Worth Road into the Mid-County Senior Center, installing new seven-foot bike lanes with upgraded safety features, milling and resurfacing Lake Worth Road in both directions, replacing underground Palm Beach County utilities throughout the project limits, improving sidewalk and driveways on both sides of Lake Worth Road, modifying medians to improve motorist safety, improving signalized intersections and pedestrian crossings, and installing new signage, pavement markings, and lighting.

Description: This 0.5-mile project from Erie Street to A Street/Lucerne Avenue Roundabout and Lucerne Avenue to C Street, and Lake Osborne Drive from Griswold Drive to Erie Street in the City of Lake Worth Beach is anticipated to begin on January 3, 2024.  Work includes milling and resurfacing existing travel lanes, constructing a six-foot wide sidewalk along the east side of Lake Osborne Drive, installing a raised crosswalk with signalization on Lucerne Avenue just east of N B Street, upgrading pedestrian signals and curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and upgrading lighting along Lake Worth Road. Description: This 1-mile project in the City of Lake Worth Beach began on October 2, 2023. Project improvements consist of lengthening the turn lanes on 6th Avenue South, adding an exclusive right turn lane to the SR 9/I-95 northbound on ramp, adding an additional right turn lane to the SR 9/I-95 southbound on ramp, lengthening the northbound left turn lane at A Street, constructing 6-foot sidewalks on both sides of 6th Avenue South, constructing 7-foot bicycle lanes on both sides of 6th Avenue South, installing Wrong-Way Driving Countermeasures on the SR 9/I-95 northbound and southbound exit ramps, constructing 16-foot ground-mounted sound walls along the SR 9/I-95 northbound exit ramp and south side of 6th Avenue South, constructing new gravity wall, curb and gutter, traffic separator, median barrier, sidewalk and driveway along 6th Avenue South within project limits, upgrading drainage, signage, lighting, signalization and pavement markings, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) upgrades, and relocation of water, sewer and utilities for the City of Lake Worth Beach.

  1. SR 7/US 441 Resurfacing Project

Description: This 2-mile project in Royal Palm Beach began on August 17, 2023. The project improvements consist of milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, improving signing and pavement markings, upgrading pedestrian curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and upgrading lighting and signalization at the following intersections: Weisman Way/Bella Terra Way, Belvedere Road, Business Park Way, Regal Cinemas 18, Aldi Way, and Okeechobee Boulevard. Traffic Impacts:

  • The outside northbound lane on SR 7/US 441 is closed from north of Belvedere Road to SR 704/Okeechobee Boulevard for clearing and grubbing, roadway widening, curb and gutter, sidewalk, lighting, and signalization upgrades. 
  • Intermittent single-lane closures will occur in each direction of SR 7/US 441 from north of SR 80/Southern Boulevard to SR 704/Okeechobee Boulevard, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday for installation of erosion control devices, widening, sidewalk, and bus pad.
  1. Southern Boulevard (SR 80) Bridges Replacement Project

Description: This 0.76-mile project includes replacing the existing bascule (draw) bridge and tide relief bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) and Lake Worth Lagoon between the Town of Palm Beach and the City of West Palm Beach. The project limits are between Washington Road in West Palm Beach and State Road A1A/South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach. New decorative lighting, pedestrian features, traffic signals, signage and drainage are included. Marine Impact:

  • The schedule of channel restrictions is published in the U.S. Coast Guard’s Local Notice to Mariners at www.navcen.uscg.gov. The Southern Boulevard Bridge opens for marine traffic twice per hour at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour.
  1. SR 809/Military Trail at SR 882/Forest Hill Boulevard Intersection Improvements Project

Description: This 0.705-mile intersection improvement project on State Road 809/Military Trail and SR 882/Forest Hill Boulevard in Palm Beach County began on September 6, 2022. Work includes widening, milling, and resurfacing along SR 809/Military Trail and SR 882/Forest Hill Boulevard, constructing additional right and left turn lanes on SR 809/Military Trail and additional right turn lanes on SR 882/Forest Hill Boulevard, installing new 5-foot bike lanes at various locations along SR 882/Forest Hill Boulevard, improving sidewalks and driveways at the intersection of SR 809/Military Trail and SR 882/Forest Hill Boulevard, installing four new signal mast arms at the intersection, and installing new signage and pavement markings.   • The outside eastbound and westbound lanes on Forest Hill Boulevard may be closed from Haverhill Road to Kirk Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondaythrough Friday for directional bore and signalization operations.
  • The outside northbound and southbound lanes on Military Trail may be closed from Summit Boulevard to Purdy Lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, for directional bore and signalization operations.
  • The outside southbound lane on Military Trail from Holiday Way to Forest Hill Boulevard is closed for turn lane construction.
  1. State Road (SR) 5/US 1 Improvements Project

Description: This 0.437-mile road improvements project on SR 5/US 1 from North Quadrille Boulevard to Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in the City of West Palm Beach began on Thursday, September 14, 2023. Work includes milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, improving curb and gutter, signing and pavement markings, upgrading pedestrian curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and upgrading pedestrian signalization.   1. SR 80/Southern Boulevard Resurfacing and Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Description: This 0.73-mile project in West Palm Beach began on June 5, 2023. Improvements on Southern Boulevard between east of Parker Avenue and west of Washington Road consist of repaving the roadway and replacing the damaged sidewalk. Improvements also include adding new pavement markings and upgrading pedestrian signals, lighting, and signage. The bridge rehabilitation includes replacing the bridge deck joints, repairing the concrete traffic railing, and rehabilitating and painting the steel beams over Georgia Avenue.   • SR 80/Southern Boulevard from Dixie Highway to Washington Road will have one lane closed in each direction as needed, daily, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and nightly, 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday.
  • SR 80/Southern Boulevard from Parker Avenue to Lake Avenue will have one lane closed in each direction as needed, daily, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and nightly, 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Georgia Avenue at the SR 80/Southern Boulevard bridge underpass is fully closed for bridge rehabilitation through 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24.Westbound traffic is being detoured via Nottingham Boulevard, Lake Avenue, and Roseland Drive. Eastbound traffic is being detoured via Lake Avenue and Nottingham Boulevard.

NORTHERN PALM BEACH COUNTY PROJECTS

(Riviera Beach, North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Juno Beach, Jupiter, Tequesta)

  1. State Road (SR) 809/Military Trail Resurfacing Project

Description: This 0.63-mile resurfacing project from south of Dyer Boulevard to north of Flag Drive in Riviera Beach began on August 8, 2023. The project improvements consist of milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, reconstructing sidewalks in select locations, upgrading pedestrian curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, upgrading signalization at Dyer Boulevard, SR 710/Beeline Highway/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and SR 708/W Blue Heron Boulevard, and upgrading pedestrian signals, intersection lighting, signage, and pavement markings.   1.   US 1 Bridge Replacement Project 

Description: This 4.1-mile project located in the Town of Jupiter from CR A1A to CR 707/Beach Road and surrounding intersections began October 18, 2021. It consists of replacing the existing US 1 Bridge over the Loxahatchee River, including adding bike lanes and sidewalks in each direction. Other improvements include installing Intelligent Transportation System technology to improve traffic flow, adding decorative lighting and drainage, and upgrading signage and pavement markings. Minor improvements will also be made to the Alternate A1A bridge over the Loxahatchee River. In addition, intersection improvements will occur at Alternate A1A and Old Dixie Highway by shifting the intersection to the southwest, adding a traffic signal, and lengthening the left-turn lane from northbound Alternate A1A to northbound Old Dixie Highway. Description: Construction on this 13-mile safety improvements project began on Monday, January 3, 2022, in western Palm Beach County. Work includes widening the shoulders of the roadway, replacing, or resetting guardrails along the roadway, installing rumble strips, and internally illuminated retroreflective pavement markings along the roadway shoulders, adding a median acceleration lane and flashing beacons at the Okeelanta Road intersection, adding outside and median acceleration lanes at the County Road 827/Bolles Canal Road intersection. Work includes milling and resurfacing existing travel lanes and shoulders, shoulder widening, replacing or resetting guardrails along the roadway, restoring sidewalks at various locations, upgrading curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, adding pedestrian gates at the FEC Railroad crossing, improving lighting and replacing the signals at SR 80/East Palm Beach Road, upgrading pedestrian signals, pavement markings, and signing to current standards, installing rumble strips and internally illuminated retroreflective pavement markings. o
