DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The pre-Christmas murder of a Deerfield Beach man was solved by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, according to information released to BocaNewsNow.com this afternoon.

Michael Sampson, who was arrested on Dec. 23, 2023 on an unrelated felony warrant, is facing an additional charge of premeditated murder for the death of Joseph Monteiro.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2023, BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue paramedics responded to 300 S.E. 12th Ave. in Deerfield Beach regarding a man who was not breathing and possibly deceased. When deputies arrived at the apartment, they went to the bedroom and saw a knife near the victim’s body and requested homicide and crime scene detectives respond to further investigate.

Using various investigative techniques, leads from surveillance video and evidence left at the crime scene, BSO homicide detectives were able to identify Sampson as the person responsible for fatally stabbing Monteiro.

Sampson is currently being held at the BSO Main Jail on a no bond hold. His charges include illegal use of a credit card, possession of Fentanyl, felony warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a person over 65, and the premeditated murder charge that was added Jan. 12, 2024.
