BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s not like 2020 or 2021 but COVID is surging in Palm Beach County, according to the latest numbers released by the Florida Department of Health.

So far in 2024, there have been at least 4,097 confirmed COVID cases in Palm Beach County. These cases only include cases reported to medical professionals. Home tests yielding a positive result — and never verified by doctors — are not a part of the count. The latest count is notable. It’s a dramatic jump from the 1,260 cases logged in November, and the 3,077 recorded in December.

The death count is also notable. The Florida Department of Health reports 36 people died from COVID in Palm Beach County in October, 19 in November, and 23 in December. While concerning, the numbers do remain lower than a year ago at this time. The death count in December of 2022 was 82 in Palm Beach County, and 119 in January of 2023.

There is no official call for masking in Palm Beach County, although medical professionals nationwide suggest that those vulnerable to COVID or other viruses consider masking while in public.
