BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The driver of a Lexus SUV backed into a parked BMW SUV in the parking lot of Nick’s New Haven near Town Center Mall Monday night. The driver of the Lexus, while being questioned by Boca Raton Police, allegedly told them that she’s drunk and going home. She later told “Alexa” to turn off a police camera.

According to a police report reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, Josephine Hewitt — of the 1300 block of South Federal Highway — backed her Lexus into the BMW which was unoccupied and legally parked. Witnesses told police that Hewitt appeared drunk when she arrived at Nick’s New Haven. It was unclear if she was served at the restaurant.

“I observed Hewitt had bloodshot glassy red eyes, she was slurring her speech,” wrote an officer, “and I could smell a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath and person.”

Hewitt then, according to police, declined to take part in a field sobriety test, and proclaimed she’s going home because she’s “drunk.”

Wrote police: “I then transported Hewitt to the Boca Raton Police Department booking facility to obtain a sample of her breath. Ofc. Coon responded as the BAT tech operator. Upon arrival, a 20-minute observation was conducted. During the 20-minute observation, Hewitt made vulgar and inappropriate comments, such as “A cop died a few weeks ago, wish it was you girl.” She also became uncooperative and had to be reminded multiple times to remain seated and face us officers during the observation period. After the 20-minute observation, Hewitt was taken into the BAT room. I asked Hewitt for a breath sample, and she stated she would not provide one. I then read her Implied Consent Warnings. While reading her Implied Consent Warnings, Hewitt continued to be belligerent and yell over me explaining to her what was going on. I was also attempting to answer her questions, however, she continued to yell over me. After reading the Implied Consent Warnings, I asked her again to provide a breath sample, which she again refused. While in the BAT room, Hewitt began shouting at “Alexa” to turn off the camera. I also offered her an additional opportunity to perform the field sobriety tasks.”

She refused. Josephine Hewitt was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on her own recognizance. A court date is pending. Her license has been suspended — that’s automatic if you refuse DUI testing in Florida.
