DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s been more than a week since the high-profile crash that left four people injured, one critically, on Atlantic Avenue after a driver apparently fled Florida Highway Patrol Troopers in Delray Beach and crashed into cars and a pole near “The Office” restaurant. But FHP remains silent about what actually happened.

Witnesses — and those with knowledge of the situation — tell BocaNewsNow.com that the crash started as some sort of a stolen vehicle investigation a few blocks away. FHP, according to sources, erred in securing the investigative scene which gave the suspect the opportunity to flee. The suspect, apparently in the stolen car, sped onto Atlantic Avenue which was packed with people enjoying a nice night out. At least four ambulances were called to the chaotic scene.

But despite requests from BocaNewsNow.com and news partner NewsRadio 610 WIOD, Florida Highway Patrol is refusing to offer details — or discuss what its Troopers may have done wrong. Delray Beach Police, which would normally handle incidents on Atlantic Avenue, is referring all questions to FHP. Spokesperson Molly Best responded to the third request for information with a terse email. The first two requests were unanswered.

The Atlantic Avenue incident ocurred just days before a Trooper, engaged in a chase St. Lucie County, crashed into a tractor trailer resulting in his death and the death of the truck driver. And it was revealed on Saturday that Troopers investigating a motorcycle crash Thursday in the area of the Florida Turnpike and Sunrise Blvd. didn’t know there was a victim. A body was found — in a canal — on Saturday.
