DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man accused of battering a woman on the Turnpike in Boynton Beach fled from two Florida Highway Patrol troopers who stood by and watched him drive off. The man later crashed into a car near “The Office” on Atlantic Avenue, injuring at least four people.
BocaNewsNow.com and South Florida’s First News on NewsRadio 610 WIOD asked Florida Highway Patrol for details of the incident for more than a week. The details were finally released on Friday — eleven days after the first of five requests was made. It was not immediately clear why FHP withheld the information for so long.
According to FHP, a woman was battered in a vehicle on the Florida Turnpike near Boynton Beach Blvd. The alleged suspect drove the woman to Bethesda East Hospital where she was left — alone — to receive treatment. The man, identified as Anthony DeMarco, drove away, but then returned once she was treated by doctors. That’s when FHP, apparently standing by, moved in to make the arrest. But it didn’t go well.
“As I approached the vehicle parked in front of the hospital,” wrote a Trooper, “I asked Mr. Demarco to step out of the vehicle while (another Trooper) stood by. Mr. Demarco refused, then proceeded to flee the scene south on Seacrest Blvd. as we pursued wit lights and sirens. Mr. Demarco was driving reckless and failed to maintain lanes and disregard the safety of the public. After a brief pursuit Mr. Demarco crashed his vehicle into a motorist stopped.”
BocaNewsNow.com learned that at least four people in the struck vehicle required ambulance transport to area hospitals One was rushed in critical condition. DeMarco’s condition was unclear. FHP did not answer questions about police procedure, including why Mr. DeMarco was given the opportunity to speed off — lead police on a chase for two miles — ultimately crashing into innocent bystanders.
The incident occurred on January 29th. The information was withheld until February 9th.

The cop pitted the white car causing the accident the guy didn’t just crash into a car in his own I was two vechicles behind that’s probably why it was withheld
