BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is facing an arson charge after a therapist told him to write his thoughts down on paper, then dispose of them. We don’t know if the therapist meant “burn” them, but that’s apparently what the patient did. Roger Jiggins is now facing a count of Arson.
According to a police report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, Jiggins was caught on surveillance camera — and seen by witnesses — placing materials in a dumpster at the apartment complex at 9220 SW 3rd Street in Boca Raton on November 14th. He allegedly set the contents on fire, causing a dumpster fire that required firefighters and police to extinguish.
Over a multi-month investigation, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the State of Florida Fire Marshal allegedly determined that Jiggins, 20, was responsible for the blaze. Wrote an investigator: “The analysis of the fire intensity and movement patterns indicated that the area of the fire origin was the interior of the dumpster. An identified person ignited combustible materials and then after the materials had sustained ignition he threw them in the dumpster.”
Investigators also wrote this from an investigative interview: “Roger told his mother that his therapist advised him to write down his thoughts and then dispose of them. Mrs. Jiggins said sometimes Roger would burn the papers with his thoughts on them in a container on the back patio.” Roger Jiggins, according to the report, didn’t think it would be a problem burning his thoughts in a dumpster since it was raining at the time he allegedly set the fire.
Roger Jiggins is now charged with second-degree arson. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on February 13th and released the following day. A court date is pending.
