Woman Accused Of Texting Friend With False Information About Fake Criminal Charge. Now Faces Libel And Slander Lawsuit.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Wellington Veterinarian is suing a Boca Raton woman for sending a private text with false information. That text, according to a complaint obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, crossed into libel and slander. The sender is being sued for more than $50,000.
Dr. Robert Boswell owns and runs a Veterinarian clinic in Wellington that focuses on Equine care. According to the suit, Shoshanna Leon sent a text message to a friend claiming that Dr. Boswell was facing criminal charges for animal cruelty. It was untrue. A records check reveals no charges have ever been filed in Florida against Dr. Boswell. His medical license is free and clear of complaints.
Here’s what Shoshanna Leon allegedly sent in a text:
“Hi, I wasn’t going to say anything because I didn’t want to seem bitter or a gossip, but since we are friendly and you own a horse that is cared for by Peggy, I thought I’d let you know that Peggy and Dr Boswell have been charged with animal cruelty. I just found out about the investigation last week (it happened on the 17th) and I spoke with the investigator today because I wanted the case number, so I could see all the information myself (there’s a lot of gossip going around). The case will be filed online on the 27th. I can give you the case number so you can search for it next week.

Anyway, I don’t want to make a big deal about it. I also had nothing to do with calling in the initial complaint (I’m actually embarrassed that it wasn’t me because I knew something was wrong).
In short, the charge is that Peggy and Dr. Boswell were keeping a foundered pony alive when it should have been euthanized long ago. It was the little white pony at the end of the row, so you may have never seen it. The County euthanized her on Wednesday.”
States the lawsuit filed against Leon: “Defendant knew or should have known her statements that Dr. Boswell had been charged with animal cruelty were false. Neither Dr. Boswell nor Boswell, P.A., were ever charged with animal cruelty. Defendant’s statements that Dr. Boswell had been charged with animal cruelty were done maliciously to damage Dr. Boswell’s reputation and character and damage Boswell, P.A.’s business.”
The suit seeks in excess of $50,000 — the statutory minimum for filing in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. There was no response from Shoshanna Leon who is identified as a “disgruntled former client.” The case number she claimed was a case number against Dr. Boswell yields no case at all.
