BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton woman is facing a DUI charge after she allegedly slammed into a pedestrian in the 400 block of Federal Highway. She later told police she had five Coronas at “The Locale,” a bar next to the crash scene, was talking to someone in the car, and had no license.
Roberta Moriera Melo, according to a Boca Raton Police report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, struck the man around 2:30 a.m. on Monday. He was found on Federal Highway with a leg injury. When police asked what happened, he pointed to a Toyota — allegedly driven by Melo.
“While speaking with Melo,” wrote the investigating officer, “I could smell the overwhelming odor of alcohol emanating from her breath. Mel’s eyes were both bloodshot and watery…Melo explained that prior to the crash she was a patron at The Locale which is a bar directly next to the location of the crash. Melo admitted to consuming five Corona beers over five hours, with the most recent beer being right before the incident.”
Melo allegedly had issues completing multiple field sobriety tests. She was transported to a breath testing facility where police say she provided breath samples of .166 and .164. That’s two times the legal limit in Florida of .08.
Melo, 49, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and charged with enhanced DUI and driving without a license. She lives in the unit block of Royal Palm Way.
