BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — An investigation is underway after a Broward Sheriff’s Deputy shot and killed a suspect accused of shooting and killing a coworker at the Broward County Transportation Center in Pompano Beach. BSO shared these preliminary details with BocaNewsNow.com.

“The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Pompano Beach on Wednesday, March 6.

At approximately 11:27 p.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting near the 3200 block of West Copans Road in Pompano Beach. While deputies were enroute, they were advised an adult male had been shot and that the armed individual was possibly still in the area. When deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with the armed individual. 

The preliminary investigation revealed at some point the suspect fired at deputies and the deputies returned fire. The armed suspect was pronounced deceased on scene. Detectives learned the suspect shot and killed his co-worker prior to them making contact with the suspect.

Detective with BSO’s Crime Scene, Homicide and Internal Affairs units responded to investigating the initial homicide. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the fatal deputy-involved shooting portion of this incident. Per BSO policy, the three deputies involved were placed on administrative assignment pending further investigation.”
