BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man died Saturday afternoon after falling off the Intracoastal Bridge on 14th Street in Pompano Beach.

BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the bridge was up at the time of the incident. The man apparently was either crossing the bridge as it opened, or stepped onto something that wasn’t secure. He lost his balance and fell into the bridge apparatus, according to initial information obtained by BocaNewsNow.com.

There was no immediate indication that the death was intentional. Multiple witnesses, according to those familiar with the response, attempted to help the man but couldn’t reach him. Broward County Fire Rescue dispatched multiple units to the scene for what is described as a “technical rescue.” The victim, however, was already deceased before rescuers could attempt to save his life.

Expect major traffic delays in the area of the bridge throughout the evening. Check back for updates. This is a developing story.

    1. Seriously? Are a heartless human? They need to have a manned bridge house. This automated bridge is bullshit. I just saw a mother pushing a stroller with a child barely make it to the other side when the bridge raising engaged. Humans before boats pleeez!
