LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Christopher Ardella of Meadowgreen Trail in Lake Worth was allegedly influenced by drugs or alcohol when the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says he struck and killed man crossing Military Trail in a cross walk.

The following is the narrative of the incident released by PBSO. “Vehicle 1” is a 2011 Dodge Nitro driven by Christopher Ardella. “Bicyclist 1” is a man whose name we are not releasing, pending next of kin notification.

”Vehicle 1 was northbound on Military Trail approaching Lantana Road, in the inside lane. Bicyclist 1 was crossing the northbound lanes of Military Trail in the south crosswalk at the intersection of Lantana Road. Bicycle 1 crossed into the path of Vehicle 1. This caused a violent collision between the front of Vehicle 1 and the right side of Bicyclist 1.

Bicyclist 1 traveled up the hood of Vehicle 1 and stuck the windshield. Bicyclist 1 then fender vaulted off the passenger side of Vehicle 1 and struck the roadway. Bicyclist 1 then slid northbound in the center of the intersection. Vehicle 1 continued northbound and came to a controlled rest north of the area of impact. Driver 1 then fled the scene northbound on Military Trail. Bicyclist 1 was transported to Delray Medical Center due to injuries sustained in the collision. Bicyclist 1 was later pronounced deceased at Delray Medical Center.

Driver 1 and Vehicle 1 were located at Driver 1’s residence. Driver 1 did not receive personal injury.”

We note Mr. Ardella has not been charged with a crime. Fatal crashes traditionally take a year to investigate.
