UPDATE AT 9:11 a.m. — The scene is cleared, traffic is returning to normal flow.

UPDATE AT 8:04 a.m. — Florida Highway Patrol just shared the following narrative with BocaNewsNow.com. This is still an active situation.

“All northbound express lanes traffic is being diverted into the general purpose lanes from south of State Road 810 (Hillsboro Blvd). Vehicle 1 (V-1) – 2014 red Hyundai Elantra sedan. Vehicle 2 (V-2) – 2013 white Ford Fusion sedan

Persons involved:

Driver of Vehicle 1 (D-1) – Unknown Hispanic male (Fatal injuries: Next of Kin has not been notified). Driver of Vehicle 2 (D-2) – 34-Year-old white male from Highland Beach, Florida (Fatal Injuries; Next of Kin has not been notified). Passenger of Vehicle 2- Unknown white female (Incapacitating injuries/ Possible fatal injuries; Next of Kin has not been notified)

V-1 was traveling south (wrong way) in the inside lane of the northbound express lanes of Interstate 95 (State Road 9), just south of State Road 798 (Palmetto Park Road). V-1 was traveling northbound in the inside lane of the express lanes of Interstate 95 (State Road 9), just south of State Road 798 (Palmetto Park Road). The front of V-1 collided with the front of V-2. Post, collision, V-1 rotated towards the inside shoulder. The front left corner of V-1 collided with the concrete traffic barrier wall where V-1 came to final rest facing northwest against the concrete traffic barrier wall. Post collision, V-2 rotated and came to final rest between the inside lane and the outside lane of the express lanes facing northwest.

D-1 was pronounced deceased on scene by City of Boca Raton Fire-Rescue personnel.
D-2 was pronounced deceased on scene by Coconut Creek Fire Rescue personnel.
Passenger of V-2 was transported as a trauma to Delray Medical Center and is in critical condition. This is still an ongoing and active investigation.”

UPDATE: FDOT at 7:02 a.m. reports that all lanes REMAIN CLOSED. Backups start at Hillsboro Blvd.

UPDATE: As of 6:01 a.m., the northbound express lanes are now CLOSED starting at Hillsboro Boulevard in Broward County.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The express lanes for I-95 Northbound in Boca Raton are closed as of 5:15 a.m. Friday due to a major crash.

The Florida Department of Transportation tells BocaNewsNow.com that the crash was first reported around 2:30 a.m. There is a fatality involved which suggests that the roadway will be closed for quite some time.

Traffic cameras in the area are down so it’s not immediately clear how backed up the area is heading into Palm Beach County.

We’ll update throughout the morning as we learn more from FDOT and Florida Highway Patrol.
