BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — South Florida airports are logging a significant number of delays after Friday morning’s earthquake in the New York/New Jersey area. A 4.8 earthquake led to the closure of JFK and Newark Airports. Both have since reopened.

JetBlue, which has a heavy northeast presence, appears to have logged the most delays for flights into and out of Palm Beach International and Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International airports. American, Delta, United, Spirit, and Southwest are also logging notable delays.

The good news: there are no cancellations as of midday Friday.

The FAA ordered ground stops at JFK and EWR in the minutes after the earthquake which was felt from Connecticut to Washington, D.C. There are no reports of injuries or significant building damage, although mass transit systems continue to investigate infrastructure. Delays are also being logged on regional transit in the affected states, and Amtrak’s service into and out of the Northeast Corridor.
