UPDATE April 6, 2024: We have received the police report which alleges Maloney attempted to steal a Mercedes. Here’s the narrative:

“On 04/02/2024 at approximately 2058 hours, I responded to 6500 Technology Way (LA Fitness) in reference to a burglary to auto. Upon arrival, I made contact with the victim, (redacted).

(Redacted) stated after his workout, he went back into the locker room where he observed an unknown male, later identified as Charles Maloney near his locker. Maloney walked away holding keys which (redacted) recognized as his. He confronted Maloney and told him he would call the manager. Maloney then fled out of the back door to the parking garage.

While speaking with (redacted), front desk worker, (redacted) advised the subject was still downstairs in the parking garage. As we walked to the east side of the parking garage, (redacted) pointed out to the male who was walking eastbound outside of the garage. Maloney began to approach me and state his phone was located in (redacted’s) car. He stated he originally went to his locker and found keys belonging to a Mercedes Benz located in his locker. He then noticed his wallet and cell phone missing. At this time, I grabbed Maloney’s right wrist and began to tell him he was being detained, he immediately cut me off saying “what happened”. I told him not to resist and place his hands behind his back. Due to Maloney pulling away from me, I was able to cuff his right wrist. He continued to brace and pull away, refusing to face away from me. I braced my left shoulder into Maloney’s chest and used my left leg to leg sweep Maloney causing us to fall onto the ground. I then rolled him onto his stomach and cuffed his left wrist.”
