UPDATE: 6:10 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024: As is often the case, the final report is a bit different than that initial report. Here is what PBSO is telling us Sunday evening: “Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious white male who had entered the Addison Reserve community. Upon making contact with the subject, community security guards observed him jumping into a nearby canal. Upon their arrival, deputies located the subject in the canal, where he stated that he was going to drown himself and submerged his head underwater in an attempt to do so.

Deputies attempted to rescue the subject by throwing him a department issued rescue rope, but he refused to grab it. While still in the water, the subject entered a culvert, causing units at the scene to lose sight of him. It was later discovered that the canal water was approximately one foot deep, which allowed the units to step in, regain visual contact, and maintain communication with the subject. After maintaining communication, deputies were able to gain compliance and took the subject into custody without incident.”

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man was rescued from a storm drain early Sunday morning near the Addison Reserve Golf Course. It was not immediately clear what the man was doing in the storm drain, how he got into the storm drain, or how long he had been in the storm drain at the time of the rescue.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were called to the scene at 7350 Linton Boulevard around 2:30 Sunday morning for the report of a person in the storm drain. That address is on the Addison Reserve property.

Upon arrival, PBSO deputies were apparently able to bring the man to safety. Whether that meant talking him out of the storm drain, or physically lifting him from the storm drain was unclear mid-morning Sunday. We’re awaiting a full update from PBSO. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue determined the man was fine once they arrived moments later. No medical treatment was required. They cleared the scene moments after arriving.

The man is not the first person to spend time in a storm drain in Palm Beach County. A woman in Palm Beach County spent considerable time in a storm drain both here — and in Texas — in 2023 and before. We will update once we receive more information from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
