BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — One person is dead and another critically injured following an early morning crash on the Florida Turnpike in the area of Boynton Beach Boulevard. The turnpike is closed as of 8:40 a.m. Sunday northbound.

Rescuers were called to the scene around 3:15 a.m. Sunday for the two vehicle crash. First responders, according to those familiar with the response, found two heavily damaged vehicles on the northbound Turnpike. One person was immediately declared dead. Two additional people were rushed to Delray Medical Center with critical injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol remains on the scene just before 9 a.m. Sunday. Traffic crashes with a fatality traditionally lead to a multi-hour investigation. Expect the Turnpike northbound to remain closed throughout the morning.

We will update with more information once it is received from Florida Highway Patrol. Your best traffic bet is take U.S. 441, Military Trail, or Jog Road north of Boynton Beach Blvd., then rejoin the Florida Turnpike.
