PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Delray Beach man, inexplicably lying on the side of the Florida Turnpike, was struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene. Police are now asking witnesses to come forward.

Florida Highway Patrol tells BocaNewsNow.com that the man, identified only as a 53-year-old white male from Delray Beach, was “laying down on the outside lane of northbound State Road 91 (Florida’s Turnpike) near the beginning of the exit ramp lane for State Road 786 (PGA Boulevard). V-1 was traveling north upon the outside lane of northbound State Road 91 approaching the location of P-1. The front right of V-1 collided with P-1. Post collision with V-1, P-1 rolled/tumbled in a northeasterly direction. P-1 entered onto the safety gore/apex of the exit ramp, where he came to rest supine facing north. V-1 fled the scene of the traffic crash without rendering aid or contacting law enforcement.”

While it is likely reasonable to suggest that a motorist has no expectation of a pedestrian laying on the side of a road, Florida law still requires that a motorist stop and render aid if involved in a crash.
