Police Thursday night are reminding parents that scooters are dangerous, may be illegal to operate without a license, and should never be operated by children and teens unless they are supervised by an adult.

This is the second fatal scooter incident involving a child, in Broward County, in the past several weeks.

BSO issued this statement to BocaNewsNow.com:

“Just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a scooter on the roadway near the 7900 block of West McNab Road in North Lauderdale.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded. On scene, they located an injured juvenile male who was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained on scene.

BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Both directions of McNab Road between Avon Lane and 81st Avenue are shut down. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.”
