BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — You’ve gotta love the people who turn to social media for help doing everything from blowing their nose to putting on underwear. You’ve also gotta love the people who find it necessary to ask inane questions that suggest a tremendous level of concern, yet aren’t concerned enough to actually call someone immediately for an answer.

Case in point: our latest “Nextdoron,” dedicated to sharing posts that probably should have never been posted in the first place. We turn to a post from a resident in Heron Bay — a community in Parkland. That resident saw what pretty much everyone knows to be a harmless snake on a driveway. Was it hissing? Doesn’t seem to be that type of a snake. Are there huge fangs? Don’t seem visible. Does it look like it’s going to wrap itself around your leg and squeeze until there’s no life left to squeeze anymore? Uh, yeah, no.

This is just a garden-variety snake that, like so much else, is just a part of living life in South Florida. The question, great: “Should I be worried? Saw this on my driveway over the weekend in Heron Bay.” The comments are tremendous. From those trying to teach: “Although any snake is startling, this one is a Black Racer…usually seen in grass. They actually are an asset as they eat bothersome insects.”

…To those turning political: “I think it’s the season they are everywhere. Nature, they don’t hurt you. They have no home anymore, really sad.”

To those going for political humor: “As a certified expert and ambassador for the SLM aka Snake Lives Matter organization, these little guys will never forget the way your home looks. My personal recommendation is to knock the house down and rebuild so he moves to a new location while you rebuild. Hopefully he forgets where you live but it’s highly unlikely. You’re best off moving! It’s a cheaper alternative!”

And then there was this: “Also was in the Bible which was evil.”

Our latest Nextdoron winner wins a rubber snake. We don’t actually give out prizes, but if we did, it would be blue — like our BocaNewsNow.com color scheme — and super scary. We’ll leave it on our winner’s driveway.

  1. Belittling and making fun of others is just another form of bullying. For some, social media is the only place they feel safe enough to connect. For others, bullying is made easy by hiding behind a veil of privacy that social media provides. Is this really newsworthy and do you really want to normalize this by making it appear to be ‘newsworthy’?
