With poetry, dance, art, music, cuisine, a flag-raising ceremony and more, the City of Boynton Beach welcomes the South Florida community to its second annual Haitian Flag-Raising Ceremony & Cultural Celebration.

This free, family-friendly event will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 18, in front of Boynton Beach City Hall, 100 E. Ocean Ave., with a flag-raising ceremony, guest speakers and refreshments. Immediately afterward, attendees can enjoy a fun-filled art experience at the Boynton Beach Arts & Cultural Center featuring poetry, a drum & dance class, an art exhibition, face-painting, mouthwatering Haitian delicacies, a 360-degree photo booth and live entertainment until 2 p.m. The Arts & Cultural Center is adjacent to city hall.

For women 35 and over, Sojourners with Healing Hearts, Inc. will offer free mammograms at the event, though advanced appointments are required. To make an appointment, call (561) 955-2731 or visit www.brrh.com/mammovan

Haitian Flag Day is a Haitian holiday celebrating the creation of the country’s flag during the Haitian revolution and is celebrated each year on May 18, the date of the flag’s adoption in 1803. The day is observed by Haitians living in and outside of Haiti.
