A Florida Atlantic University Student was struck and killed Sunday night. Boca Raton Police issued a media advisory Tuesday afternoon.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A 25-year-old recent graduate from Florida Atlantic University was struck and killed while crossing North Military Trail Sunday evening. Boca Raton Police just released details of the fatality — two days after it happened.

This is the text of the release issued by police in the death of Sowmya Gudla who graduated in the fall with a Master of Science degree in Data Science and Analytics with a Data Science and Engineering concentration:

“The Boca Raton Police Service Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash which occurred along the 6500 block of North Military Trail on May 26, 2024 at approximately 9:30 p.m. A 2023 Volkswagen was traveling southbound on North Military Trail when the vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway mid-block.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was subsequently pronounced deceased. If you have any information about this crash, please contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Andrew Crawford at (561) 620-6227.”

The driver is identified as Alexander Utkin, 56, of Boca Raton. He was not injured.
