BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The carjacking we first reported on early Tuesday morning was part of a bizarre, multi-part crime that involved a woman who may have been on bath salts, and a victim who tried to flee into a canal.

BocaNewsNow.com and news partner NewsRadio 610 WIOD have learned that Neyna Paishann Curran Rhodes was allegedly running on the Sawgrass Expressway near University Drive around 4 a.m. Tuesday when she was nearly struck by an oncoming car in the northbound lanes. The Sawgrass, a high speed expressway, is not a place where motorists expect a pedestrian.

The woman driving the vehicle that almost struck Rhodes apparently pulled over, attempted to help the woman, but quickly found herself the victim of crime. Rhodes, according to information received by BocaNewsNow.com and WIOD, lunged for the woman, attempted to poke out her eye, and attempted to rip her mouth by forcefully pulling it like a handle. The victim fled the scene — leaving her car unlocked — and ended up in a canal as she ran from the side of the Sawgrass.

Making matters worse, the victim got stuck in the shallow canal and apparently needed to rescued by Coral Springs Fire Rescue workers. She is being treated for her injuries.

Neyna Curran Rhodes didn’t make it far. She was arrested near the scene and is now facing multiple charges. She refused to allow authorities transport her to bond court Wednesday morning so remained locked up as she was officially charged with burglary with assault, possession of Methamphetamine, and possession of 20 grams (or less) of Cannabis. She remains held in the Broward County Jail.
