DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in West Delray Beach early Sunday morning. Atlantic Avenue remained closed between Lyons Road and the Turnpike as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday as the investigation continued.
According to sources familiar with the emergency response, Delray Beach Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of 8359 Atlantic Avenue just after 7 a.m. Sunday. A woman was seen unresponsive in the area and a car was seen in a nearby ditch. There was nothing paramedics could do for the woman who was pronounced dead on the scene.
The specifics of the incident were still being determined as of mid-day. As reported continuously by BocaNewsNow.com, the intersection of Lyons Road and Atlantic Avenue remains under construction as Palm Beach County efforts to finish work that was supposed to take just months but has now continued for more than two years due to management and contractor issues. That work is expected to be complete by July.
Check back for updates later Sunday. We expect a full report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office once traffic homicide investigators complete the preliminary investigation.

Every single day here in SE FL (Boca Raton), I open my phone’s news stream and read about yet another auto accident, so often a fatality. I lived in Turkey for three years and drove on a road where people often used their horn as their brake; however, never in my life have I felt so much trepidation upon slipping behind the steering wheel of my Blue Subaru and attempting to drive anywhere! It’s a wild ride; it’s a roller coaster; it’s a death wish; it’s a lottery but the winner doesn’t win anything good. I. Just. Don’t. Get. It!
Kary… It’s really super simple… people are crazy. I know that sounds glibly idiotic, but what is the equation of your daily experience with other people? There’s just more negativity out there than loving consideration. Get behind the wheel and it’s me against the world. Don’t get in my way.
Sounds like a perfect lawsuit against the township for excessive delay getting this project finished . Surprised this has not happened sooner .
Sounds more like a distracted driver on their phone or texting ! I stopped riding my motorcycle for this very reason, people don’t pay attention .
The victim was my friend as well as the my physical therapist. She smiled and never gave up on me without Karen and her amazing way to push me beyond my limits I know she loved adored and I would appreciate any information that I can pay my respects to her family.
