BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The first tropical system of the season — Alberto — is now alive, and the brief lull in the extremely hot weather is, in a word, brief. We’ll start with our region as we report that the National Weather Service is warning that extreme heat is likely to return to South Florida, including Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Lake Worth Beach, Wellington, the entire area as early as Thursday. The “real feel” temperature could hit 112 degrees. You read that correctly.
Here is the official weather “outlook” from NWS Forecasters:
“Scattered thunderstorms will be possible through the rest of the week. The strongest thunderstorms could contain gusty winds and heavy downpours. Any heavy downpours could create the potential for additional flooding concerns.

The risk of rip currents will continue into the second half of the week across the Atlantic Coast beaches as onshore flow remains robust. Hazardous marine conditions over the Atlantic waters may continue into the second half of the week as winds and seas remain elevated. Excessive heat could become a concern over the weekend, with heat indices in the 105-112 degree range possible.”
Meantime, the National Hurricane Center continues to watch two systems. There is a developing system off the east coast of Florida that has a 20 percent chance of becoming something of note over the next seven days. And Alberto is now a Tropical Storm. It’s churning in the Gulf and is likely to hit the Texas/Mexico border within the next few days. Check back for updates.
