DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Delray Beach theater legend Randy DelLago has died. DelLago was the very longtime artistic director of the Delray Beach Playhouse, and recently began work at The Wick in Boca Raton. While known for his many talents and performances, DelLago may best be remembered for his “Musical Memories” productions that packed the Delray Beach Playhouse each season. DelLago scripted musical stories about a composer or performer — bringing that composer or performer to life through an ensemble cast singing and dancing while he narrated their biography.

Night after night, matinee after matinee, the general public, theater enthusiasts, and area retirement communities packed into the theater to hear — and see — Randy’s work. His pronunciation of his own name — Rahnnnndy Dell-AHHH-Go was often a highlight of the performance.

The Delray Beach Playhouse issued this statement Monday afternoon:

“It is with great sadness that we report the passing of long-time Playhouse Artistic Director Randy DelLago. He was a legendary figure for more than 40 years at the Playhouse and he made an enormous positive impact on many people along the way, including thousands of patrons and actors.

His knowledge of theater and history was unmatched in the South Florida community. His brilliant and entertaining Musical Memories concerts packed the Playhouse for decades and drew thousands annually to our community theater on the shores of Lake Ida.

His deft touch as a director made the Playhouse main stage productions a “must see” each and every season for more than four decades and he will be greatly missed by all.“

Randy DelLago was 77. While no immediate cause of death was released by the Delray Beach Playhouse, those close to him said he had been battling a few health issues during recent years.
