BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — At least one person is dead and several critically injured following multiple crashes in Boca Raton and North Broward County. Two Boca Raton crashes were reported within minutes of each other just north of the Glades Road exit of the Florida Turnpike. A second critical crash was reported a short time later on the turnpike near Coconut Creek Parkway.
In Boca Raton, rescuers for multiple agencies were called to the Florida Turnpike shortly before 2:30 a.m. when at least two vehicles and a motorcycle were involved in two separate crashes. Sources connected to the rescue operations tell BocaNewsNow.com that a motorcyclist was found in the middle of the turnpike. Two cars were found nearby. At least one fatality was reported. Others were critically injured. We are awaiting an update from Florida Highway Patrol.
The northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike were closed while the investigation was underway. Those lanes have since reopened.
Around 4 a.m., another major crash was reported on I-95 in the area of Coconut Creek Parkway. In that crash, one vehicle landed on its side, as seen in the Florida Department of Transportation traffic camera image, above. Injuries were not immediately known. The Florida Turnpike was slowed but not shut in this crash.
Heavy rains moved through South Palm Beach County and North Broward County overnight, into the early morning hours of Saturday. It was not immediately clear if the weather played a factor in these crashes. Check BocaNewsNow.com later for an update on these and other traffic situations.
