DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Hopefully August. That’s what Palm Beach County officials are saying when it comes completion of the never-ending construction project at the intersection of Lyons Road and Atlantic Avenue in West Delray Beach. The project — part of a larger multi-year project that wasn’t supposed to take multiple years — was supposed to be complete in July. It wasn’t. Here’s what Palm Beach County officials are saying as of Friday afternoon, August 2, 2024:

“We are pleased to announce that we are in the home stretch of construction with the project that will widen Lyons Road from 2 to 4-lanes from the LWDD L-38 Canal north to Atlantic Avenue.  While we hoped to have the paving completed this week, we had both weather and mechanical issues that impacted the schedule.  The contractor lost 12 days in June and 10 days in July due to inclement weather.   We expect equipment repairs to be completed this week to allow paving to begin again next Monday 8/5/24 and continue daily until Friday 8/16.  At that point, nighttime paving operations will begin and are expected to conclude by Wednesday 8/21/24; all dates weather permitting.

Attached is a graphic showing the work completed in the blue text boxes and the work remaining in orange text boxes.  This picture is showing the conditions current as of yesterday, Thursday 8/1/24, at the intersection of Lyons Road and Atlantic Avenue, looking northward.“

The intersection of Atlantic and Lyons continues to be the scene of multiple car accidents — often weekly. Check back for updates, and check out the graphic, above, provided by Palm Beach County.
