BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Major food news in Delray Beach and Boca Raton, if you’re into fast casual food. A longtime popular burger place is closing after a murder-suicide, and the New York invasion into Boca Raton continues with the opening a popular bagel restaurant. Here are the details:

BurgerFi at 7959 West Atlantic Avenue is now closed. Forever. The chain remains open in other locations, but this specific location not far from the Florida Turnpike entrance is now closed. It was notably the scene of a murder suicide back in October, where a Republican activist shot his wife then killed himself. The woman ran into BurgerFi for help. Steven Alembik died in the parking lot. The restaurant never quite recovered following the crime — but it is not necessarily related to the closing.

In happier news, H&H Bagels of New York is opening near Starbucks at 2200 Glades Road. It’s convenient because New Yorkers invading Boca Raton likely exit I-95 at Glades Road once they arrive on JetBlue into Palm Beach International or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, before heading straight over to Boca Raton Town Center Mall believing it’s still a place to see or be seen. From the H&H website: “Our bagels start with the highest quality, all-natural ingredients sourced from around the world. Then they are proofed, kettle-boiled, bathed in cold water, and oven baked. Our original recipe and traditional process is what makes our bagels like no other bagel in the world. After 50 years of perfecting the bagel we are now on a mission to share it far and wide. Boca Raton, you’re next!”

Other New York-based bagel places — or bagel places using New York locations in their names — have found that New Yorkers in Boca Raton can be more challenging than New Yorkers in New York, so we’ll see how the company does. 2200 Glades Road is just east of Town Center Mall and west of I-95 on the south side of Glades. The location should be open soon. Check back for updates.
