BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The BocaNewsNow.com iOS and Android apps are dead. You can go ahead and delete them. After thousands of faithful BocaNewsNow.com readers downloaded our apps over the past year, we’re killing them. Here’s why: we found something better. And we’d like you take part.

To be honest, we were never a fan of our apps for iOS and Android. They seemed like a necessary part of growing a news website, and for a while, they were the only way to send news bulletins instantly to phones and tablets. But the technology keeps getting better which means we don’t need you to download anything to receive news, traffic, and weather alerts on your devices.

Sarting immediately, we’re using the latest tech to “push” news alerts to you. Without being overly technical, we’ve moved our alert system to what’s known as a “Web App.” You download nothing. You only have to save our homepage (BocaNewsNow.com) to the Home Screen on your phone. You’ll be asked if you want to receive alerts. We hope you’ll say “yes.” And that’s it. No app. Saving our homepage to your “home screen” lets us send alerts to your device. Here are the instructions for both iOS and Android.

To receive our alerts, just save us to the Home Screen of your phone or tablet. Here’s how on your iPhone or iPad. (Scroll down for Android).

  1. Go to BocaNewsNow.com on your phone or tablet.
  2. Look on the upper right hand side of your screen. You’ll see a box with an arrow pointing up. Click on it and select “Add To Home Screen.”
  3. Our icon should now appear on your Home Screen.
  4. When you click or press on the app, you’ll be asked if you would like to receive notifications. Say yes! You may be asked a second time. Say yes again!

That’s it. You’ll receive silent alerts when there’s news, traffic, or weather that you need to know about. You can delete it anytime you’d like. In the simplest terms, you have taken our website and turned it into a self-contained app on your device. We haven’t installed anything. But this lets our system send alerts that are received by your device.

ANDROID

If you’re using an Android phone with Google Chrome, the setup is basically the same. Click the three dots on the upper right hand side of your phone while you’re on the BocaNewsNow.com website. That should reveal the menu here:

Then click on “Add To Home Screen.” Just like on iOS, you will likely be asked twice if you’d like to receive notifications from BocaNewsNow.com. Click “yes” and you’re good to go. Again, this is completely free. We’re not tracking you. The alerts make no noise (unless you tell your phone to make noise). You can delete what’s known as a “web app” at any time.

We believe you’ll find this to be a much more enjoyable experience. Reach out if you have any questions. Email news (at) BocaNewsNow.com.
