BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Both the Palm Beach County School District and the Broward School District are monitoring what will soon be Hurricane Helene, but say for now, schools are set to remain open. While the system is expected to hit Florida’s panhandle or west coast as a major hurricane, South Florida is under a tropical storm warning. Here’s what the Palm Beach County School District provided to BocaNewsNow.com Wednesday morning:

“The School District of Palm Beach County is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Helene for potential impacts to our county. Currently, there is no impact on District operations. We will continue to monitor the storm.”

The Broward School District issued this statement:

“We are closely monitoring the storm in collaboration with local emergency management teams. At this time, there is no impact on District operations. We will continue to keep you informed and provide updates as necessary.

The issue for all school districts is often wind speed. Even if a storm is not a direct hit, the wind speeds may prevent school busses from operating in a safe manner. Tropical Storm winds are often on the cusp of when school districts cancel school, although that is clearly not happening at this point. Check BocaNewsNow.com for updates.
