PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A major crash on the Florida Turnpike is causing significant problems mid-day Wednesday for drivers hoping to head south towards Lake Worth, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and Boca Raton. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue remains on the scene of a truck with a trailer that is on its side. You can see the image in an FDOT camera shot above.
The incident is in the area of mile marker 99 which is roughly West Palm Beach. The problems, however, start well before West Palm for southbound traffic, and northbound traffic is experiencing significant gaper delays. We expect the problems to continue well into the afternoon. It is quite a large truck that is on its side.
Your best bet is I-95 or U.S. 441 past the scene in both directions. Then rejoin the Florida Turnpike. It’s a challenging day everywhere, however, as Hurricane Helene’s very outer bands move through the area. Expect problems on all major roads across the area — there are lots of accidents on roads all over Palm Beach County and Broward County.
